University of Oregon (UO) Center for Neuroimaging
 Study Participant Home Preparation Checklist
- MRI scan studies are safe, painless, and take approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
- You will be lying comfortably on your back with your knees propped up.
- There is a consent form and short pre-scan questionnaire that you will be asked to fill out.
- The MRI Technologist or study coordinator will review the consent form and pre-scan questionnaire with you and answer any questions that you may have.
- You will be given a post-scan survey to complete after your scan for this study.
Listed below are some items to keep in mind prior to your participation in a MRI study at the Center for NeuroImaging.
- Eat and drink normally on the day of the scan (unless notified otherwise by the investigator for your particular study).
- Take any needed medications on the day of the scan (unless notified otherwise by the investigator for your particular study).
- Leave extra jewelry off (necklaces, earrings, watches, hair clips and misc. body jewelry). Wedding bands and most rings are fine to leave on. The Center does offer lockers where you can store your valuables.
- Wear clothing that is comfortable with a minimum of metal fasteners, snaps, zippers, hooks, etc…especially from the waist up. Sweatpants are great. The Center can provide scrubs to wear if necessary.
- You will be asked to remove your shoes, so please bring an extra pair of socks to keep your feet warm.
- Make a list of any surgeries or injuries which may have left metal inside your body. The pre-scan questionnaire will touch upon these subjects.
- If you wear eyeglasses, it may be helpful to bring the prescription values along with you. Some fMRI studies require distinguishing symbols, letters, and numbers. Most standard eyeglasses will cause imaging difficulties. The Center can fit you with specialized compatible corrective lenses prior to your scan if necessary.
**We want you to feel safe and comfortable during your time with us. Please do not hesitate to give any feedback that you think would improve your experience and the experience of future participants. Thank you for your participation.
