Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL)

Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL)

The Summer Academy to Inspire Learning was first organized in 2006 by the Economics Department for students who were about to become high school freshmen and who were identified by their math teachers as highly capable students although the students may not see attending college as a possible option in their lives. One of the goals of the program is to expose these students to various aspects of college life and to ultimately raise the likelihood that they will attend college and perhaps go on to become college professors.

The Brain Development Lab joined the program in 2007, organizing the Psychology/Neuroscience Camp, which lasts for one week and includes interactive presentations by graduate students and university faculty volunteers from the Department of Psychology. A variety of topics in psychology and neuroscience are presented, as well as discussions of financial aid, a tour of the UO Museum of Art, and an interactive campus tour.
